Recycling Contracts and Operations
Municipalities want to do the right thing, recycling what makes sense and what is possible. As the cost of recycling climbed, most municipalities turned responsibility for operations over to the private sector, who have invested millions on recycling infrastructure. However, by relinquishing responsibility, municipalities are no longer able to add materials as they wish as their residents ask, or demand, more recycling services. Frustrated, the public adds the materials anyhow, causing problems under recycling contracts. With extensive experience in designing, operating and managing recycling facilities, programs and designing and administering contracts, Crow's Nest Environmental can help municipalities structure their programs and contracts, such that they can maximize the effectiveness of their recycling programs.
Crow's Nest Environmental wrote the proposal for operations which was awarded to GFL who will be the post-collection service provider through 2026. Crow's Nest Environmental is a member of the GFL operations team overseeing the Recycle BC program.
MRF Operational Reviews
Crow's Nest Environmental has spent almost three decades working in and around material recovery facilities (MRFs). MRF design and operational reviews have been carried out for multiple municipalities and private sector clients. These reviews provide insights into how operations could be improved and/or design changes made to increase the efficiency and lower the cost of recyclables processing. As MRF equipment manufacturers continue to evolve their offerings, these innovations provide opportunities to increase diversion.
